In the post millennium era, there has been a paradigm shift from musician to entertainer and this new approach to live performance, has taken the new breed of entertainers to a total new realm; but most of all, has taken their audiences with them on this awesome journey.

Spearheading this movement is the well known, experienced and accomplished, solo entertainer, Francois du Plessis, in association with his Entertainment Portfolio Company called Bands4Africa. Assisting him in this major venture is his wife Lisa, who has an accomplished dancing background and whom has been involved with the music industry for the past 18 years. Together they are a formidable combination, focusing on the successful implementation of their combined visions, in the Cape Town Music Industry.

Bands4Africa was formed to source and supply the appropriate Entertainment for ANY Event or Venue and have been committed to the continuous improvement, education and edification of our Artists within the Cover Music industry. Whilst pursuing our objective to establish a formal platform, where new talent can be nurtured and developed and existing artists can excel in a secure and ethical working environment, we have identified the need for a Strategic Entertainment Planning (SEP) Service for Venues.

As of 1 June 2011 Bands4Africa is contracted to provide SEP for the following venues;

  • Quay 4 Tavern, V&A Waterfront,
  • Doodles Beachfront, Blaawberg,
  • The Bascule Whiskey Bar, the Cape Grace Hotel, V&A Waterfront,
  • The Hollow Tree, Tygervalley and
  • The Tavern, Gordon’s Bay Harbour,

This service would prove to be the stabilizing factor for Bands4Africa and the local Cape Town Cover Music industry, during the recession experienced worldwide in 2009 and 2010 as we experienced our most successful growth period during this time, supplying approximately R 2,500,000’s work for local musicians and entertainers.

Objectives:

The Bands4Africa goalposts have moved extensively over the past 4 years to encompass the growing needs of the cover music industry, local and abroad. However our main objective is the creation of a formal platform where new talent can be nurtured and developed and exciting artists can excel in a secure and ethical booking environment.

Up to now:

Over the past 4 years, we have placed artists successfully, at The Dubliner, Quay 4 Restaurant, The Cullinan Hotel, Sangria Tavern, Barbaydos, the Tavern 'n Ale , Seaforth Restaurant, Chaplan's and Doodles, Beachfront. At present we are managing Quay 4, Doodles and The Hollow Tree and Bascule Whiskey Bar’s entertainment portfolio.
Our expertise extends to the planning and executing of exceptional entertainment programs for various events, organizations, companies and individuals.

  • The Cape Town Harley Davidson Dealership's 10 year birthday celebration, December 2009
  • Launch of the Pepper Club on the Beach, in Camps Bay in 2009,
  • 2009 New Years Eve Entertainment program for Graham Beck in Clifton, Cape Town, featuring Sterling EQ and ChrisS
  • The 2010 New Talent search competition at Quay 4 Tavern, V&A Waterfront.
  • Sourced and supplied all logistics for the Graham Beck memorial service at 1682 Steenberg Estate, December 2010
  • 2011 Sourced and supplied all logistics for the International Greeff/Christies affiliation launch at 1682 Steenberg Estate.
  • The 2011 Acoustic talent Search at Quay 4.

As the Bands4Africa Live Music circuit currently provides approx. 30 gigs a week for various musicians and entertainers in Cape Town, it calls for us to have a certain standard and supply of entertainers, to place in these venues which means that we constantly have to monitor the progress and improvement of our artists in order to place them in the correct venues and functions.

To the future:

With the continuous retirement and/or movement of entertainers into different spheres and ventures, there is a constant need for new performers to fill the ever increasing entertainment needs of Cape Town and with the 2010 Football World Cup come and gone it is now time to find new venues or create platforms/outlets for our artists.
